Capel Battery had 20 Nissan Huts build mainly used as accommodation for over 150 personnal on site from 1942 to 1945.
All 20 huts had size 36 ft in length by 16 ft in width which were sunk 5 feet below ground level to protect them for sea and aerial attack. In 2023 we re-build Nissan Hut 20 which is used as Muesum. A Nissen hut is a prefabricated steel structure originally for military use, especially as barracks, made from a 210c portion of a cylindrical skin of corrugated iron. It was designed during the First World War by the Canadian-American-British engineer and inventor Major Peter Norman Nissen Below are the photos of the re-build. Each hut made from sheet of metal attached to metal frame with wooden purlins. The frame are bolted to the foundations.
