Are you ready for a camping experience unlike any other? Come explore our historic World War II gun battery site with spectacular views of the English Channel. You've never seen a campsite like this before! Capel Battery is certified Motorhome with 13 acres of land to explore including the gun emplacements, Nissan huts with speculator views of the English Channel.

We have both hardstanding and grass areas with electric hook up and water standpipe. Dogs very welcome.

Imagine stepping back in time to a former World War II gun battery site, built in 1941 as a defence against a possible German invasion

Purchased by my father John Button in 2009, our family has spent the last 15 years restoring the site to its former glory. We've unearthed the gun battery and Nissan huts bases, gained access to the underground plotting room, dressing station, and ammunition bunker. The journey has been exhilarating, and we've created a museum that's open for visitors most weekends. Come and witness history come to life! Looking for a hidden gem on the south coast?

Look no further than Capel Battery! Perched on top of the iconic White Cliffs of Dover, this spot boasts stunning views and is conveniently located between vibrant Folkestone (just a 5-minute drive away) and historic Dover (only 15 minutes by car). Plus, explore the unique and secluded natural reserve of The Warren or take a stroll along the beautiful Kent Coastal Walkway and beach. And when you need a break, head to the newly renovated Folkestone Harbour with its pop-up cafes, bars, restaurants, and local artists' shops. Don't forget to add a visit to Dover Castle to your itinerary - it's just a short drive away!

This World War 2. Gun battery site of historic interest on top of the White Cliffs of Dover with specular views of Folkestone, France and the English Channel. Easy reach of Eurotunnel and the Port of Dover.

February 2026 Liked: Exactly what we required - somewhere to park up and plug in, good instructions on how to get there. Nothing fancy but great that the funds are going towards restoration of the site

January 2026 Liked - Perfect stopover on route to Dover. Walkable into Folkestone. Reasonably priced with Ehu and water. Would definitely stop there again.

Very close to Dover ferries. Very quiet and quirky - Would stay again

Very quiet and empty, we parked next to the gun battery remains, so interesting. Great visit to the Battle of Britain Memorial next door, and scenic walk down the undercliff through the Warren, and into Folkestone, bus back to just outside the door. A lovely stay thank you.

Great location that is building to something special. Liked how easy it was to access, the history, and the access to power.

Peaceful historic staycation
Had a very peaceful stay ,surrounded by a great historic site & also surrounded by some fantastic walks & the views were amazing!!
If you love nature & wild camping in a very safe, all be it tho a very basic site then this site is for you & the fact that a local pub is just minutes outside the gate is a big bonus & a stunning hill top cafe is just approx 15 mins walk away 😀
This site is especially ideal if you take your furry friends as the walks are just priceless!!

Hi Martin. Absolutely loved staying last night. We arrived mid afternoon and enjoyed a good mooch around. Fascinating remains. I can only imagine what those guns sounded like! Popped next door to the Battle of Britain Memorial. Outstanding. To make my day complete in tbe best way possible was coming back into the battery and hearing Merlin engines. Looked up and a pair of Spits were flying over the site. One even peeled off to come round again. It surely was the tiniest taste of 84 years ago. We will most definitely be returning to the area and will have no hesitation in staying at the battery again.

Excellent hospitality
Warm welcome upon arrival. We knew there was no facilities apart from water and electric hook up. The view of France and the proximity to the Battle of Britain Memorial was excellent. The pub is a five minute walk with good food. The site is full of WW2 history if not your average campsite. Motorhomes only at the moment with 5 pitches. It was perfect for that something different.
We will definitely go back.
